Mumbai, Aug 31 (NationPress) Actress and producer Pallavi Joshi is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated film ‘The Bengal Files’. She has disclosed intricate details about the production logistics behind a particularly gruesome scene from the film’s shoot.
The pivotal scene captures the aftermath of a riot that occurred in undivided Bengal during a dark period in history. During a promotional interview with IANS at her residence, Joshi elaborated on how the crew executed the scene using dummy bodies and prosthetic blood, emphasizing that the experience was both physically and emotionally draining.
She shared with IANS, “We have heard that there were hundreds, even thousands, who lost their lives, but to visually represent them in such numbers was incredibly overwhelming. We had many dummy bodies, yet we also had numerous live actors and extras portraying deceased individuals. They had to be covered in makeup, and buckets of blood were poured over them. We aimed for technical accuracy, but the emotional weight was immense. After wrapping up each day, as I lay in bed, I reflected on what we had just achieved.”
Joshi continued, “The haunting images come rushing back, reminding me that behind the artistic expression lies a painful reality. Each lifeless body we depicted represented a real person who suffered. The gravity of what we created is staggering, and it often keeps me awake at night.”
‘The Bengal Files’ is inspired by the Direct Action Day, which took place on August 16, 1946. The film delves into one of India’s most tragic chapters, depicting the brutal killings that erupted following riots in Kolkata. These riots ignited further violence between Muslims and Hindus/Sikhs in regions including Noakhali, Bihar, and Punjab.
Produced by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha, the film will be released globally by Zee Studios on September 5, 2025.
