Mumbai, March 12 (NationPress) As the vibrant festival of Holi draws near, actress Pooja Chopra reminisces about her beloved memories associated with this joyful occasion. She provides a personal insight into her childhood Holi festivities, sharing how she would discreetly bring water balloons to her tuition classes.
Reflecting on her younger days, Pooja shared with IANS, “One of the wildest things I can recall doing on Holi—or rather, the day prior—was during my school years. I would sneak water balloons in my bag while attending my tuition classes. I would act as if everything was normal, and once our class was over and we descended downstairs, I would unleash the balloons at my friends when they least anticipated it. They would return home soaked and come back the next day seeking revenge.”
“I remember being completely coated in baby oil from head to toe before Holi—every strand of hair, the edges of my ears, earlobes, nail beds, even my elbows were slathered in oil! Luckily, nowadays everyone enjoys playing with gulal and organic colors, so I no longer fret about persistent stains after showering. However, even to this day, I still prefer applying a generous layer of moisturizer before stepping out,” Pooja added.
The 'Commando' actress fondly reminisced about her favorite Holi delicacy, Puran Puri.
“My all-time favorite has to be Puran Puri with ghee! After playing Holi, my nani would prepare it for me thick and stuffed, more akin to a Puran Paratha than a Puran Puri, but utterly delicious. Hot puran paratha with ghee is my absolute favorite,” she recalled.
Pooja reflected on the tradition of Holika Dahan, remembering the sacred rituals that have remained unchanged since her childhood.
Pooja Chopra noted, “Holika Dahan has always been about gathering for the puja, circling the bonfire, offering prayers, and receiving sweets as prasad. But as children, the most thrilling part was slipping away to splash water with friends right afterward! Even today, the spirit of Holika Dahan endures; it’s a time for prayer, introspection, and seeking blessings, as well as a chance to connect with everyone in the community and share sweets.”
Pooja, who was crowned Femina Miss India World 2009, gained recognition with 'Commando: A One Man Army' and has since appeared in numerous films, including Madhur Bhandarkar's works like “Fashion” and “Heroine.”
