Mumbai, March 28 (NationPress) Actor Pratik Gandhi, who is preparing to depict the renowned social reformer Jyotirao Phule on screen, expressed that embodying this legendary figure has proven to be both a rewarding and transformative experience for him.
The actor, who is looking forward to the premiere of his upcoming film, “Phule,” disclosed that stepping into Jyotirao Phule's role not only posed a challenge for him as an artist but also significantly influenced his personal views on social change. Pratik stated to IANS, “It was tough in many aspects, yet immensely rewarding. Jyotirao Phule’s life and contributions are so profound that it feels almost surreal to play him. Discussing his life often sounds like a fairy tale—this individual who achieved so much against all challenges. Yet, the reality is, he didn’t possess any magical abilities.”
“His greatest asset was his faith in himself and his bravery to defy societal conventions. As we began working on this role, it became a transformative journey for me. The deeper I delved into the character, the more I sensed his essence. The challenge was to ensure that my portrayal reflected the significance of his actions.”
When queried about playing a Maharashtrian character despite being a Gujarati, Pratik Gandhi acknowledged it was indeed a challenging but enriching experience. He mentioned, “It wasn’t as daunting as it might appear. The cultures of Gujarat and Maharashtra are quite alike, and historically, they were part of the same Bombay province. The language barrier was minor since I understand Marathi, although I had to focus on the grammar. I have portrayed Marathi characters previously, which instilled confidence. Additionally, I have numerous friends from Maharashtra, creating a sense of connection with the culture. Overall, it was not as challenging as I anticipated.”
The film, directed by Ananth Mahadevan, also features Patralekha as Savitribai Phule. It is scheduled for release in theaters on April 11, coinciding with the 197th birth anniversary of Mahatma Phule.
