Chennai, March 25 (NationPress) Director and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has stated that his ‘L2: Empuraan’, the much-anticipated second part of the ‘Lucifer’ series featuring Mohanlal in the lead role, will function as a stand-alone film. This means that even those who have not seen the first installment will be able to fully grasp the plot, story, and narrative of the upcoming sequel.

During a press conference in Chennai, Prithviraj was queried about whether individuals unfamiliar with the initial film could comprehend the sequel's storyline.

In response, he explained, “My writer Murali Gopi and I were very deliberate in ensuring this film could stand on its own. We aim to maintain consistent quality for the third installment of this franchise as well. Regardless of whether you have watched the first film, you will fully understand the plot, story, and narrative of the second part.”

He did note, however, that viewers who are familiar with the first film might experience some nostalgic moments with certain sequences and dialogues.

“If someone applauds in the theater while you’re watching the film, you might wonder, 'Why are they applauding this dialogue?' It could be because they are reminiscing about something from the first part, but apart from that, this is indeed a stand-alone film,” he said.

Prithviraj further elaborated, “Even when we wrapped up the first part, we ensured that it was a complete story, even without a follow-up. In the second part, I’ve taken a creative risk. By the conclusion of the second part, you will sense that the narrative will only feel whole with the third installment. My hope is that viewers who see the second part but haven’t watched the first will develop an inclination to go back and view the original. I wish for that to occur.”

The Mohanlal-starring L2: Empuraan (L2E) is being co-produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca Productions, and Sri Gokulam Movies. The story is written by Murali Gopy, with music composed by Deepak Dev. The cinematography is by Sujith Vaassudev, and editing is done by Akhilesh Mohan.

The first installment, ‘Lucifer’, released in 2019, marked Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial debut and became a blockbuster within just eight days. It grossed over Rs 200 crore, establishing itself as the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.

Unquestionably, anticipation for the sequel, set to release on March 27 of this year, has reached an all-time high.
