Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) On the 59th death anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar this Wednesday, actor Randeep Hooda, who portrayed the freedom fighter in his directorial debut, paid homage and remarked that Savarkar’s work transformed the understanding of the 1857 uprising as a comprehensive struggle for independence, motivating numerous revolutionaries through the years.

Randeep made his directorial debut with “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar”, which premiered on March 22 last year. This film, detailing Savarkar’s life and challenges, was a deeply personal project for Hooda, who not only starred in the leading role but also directed, co-wrote, and co-produced it.

In an Instagram post, Randeep shared his reflections on the profound bond he established with Savarkar’s narrative during the production of the film.

He expressed: “On this death anniversary, we honor Veer Savarkar, a groundbreaking figure in India’s quest for independence. His work, The History of the First War of Indian Independence, redefined the 1857 uprising as a nationwide struggle for freedom, inspiring subsequent generations of revolutionaries.”

He noted that he experienced the depth of Savarkar’s dedication while embodying the character.

“As the actor and director who had the honor of portraying him, I’ve observed the extent of his commitment. Despite receiving a sentence of 50 years in life imprisonment and enduring Kaala Paani, Savarkar remained unwavering in his conviction that armed resistance was vital for India’s independence.”

He continued: “Even though his contributions are frequently neglected and misinterpreted, his vision of self-reliance, national pride, and robust defense laid the groundwork for India's emergence as a global power today. Savarkar’s legacy is as pertinent today as it was in his time. #SwatantryaVeerSavarkar #VeerSavarkar #LegacyOfFreedom”

Next, he will feature in “Jaat”, directed by Gopichand Malineni, alongside Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra. The film is being extensively shot in Hyderabad, Bapatla, and Visakhapatnam, with music composed by Thaman S.
