What Did Rashmika Mandanna Say About Playing Betaal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Oct 28 (NationPress) Actress Rashmika Mandanna has shared her thoughts on venturing into a completely new territory with her role as Tadaka in ‘Thamma’. She described the experience of portraying a vampire as not only challenging but also incredibly exhilarating.
Rashmika stated to IANS, “For me, this was entirely uncharted territory because I found myself wondering, how does one embody a vampire? What does it mean to be a Betaal? Especially since the Betaal interacts with the Indian household, and it’s essential to convey the contrast of being a Betaal while still existing in a human environment.”
She found this experience to be “very interesting.”
The actress elaborated, “As an artist, I’ve come to understand that portraying a typical character offers one kind of thrill.”
Rashmika expressed her fascination with the transformation process as an artist.
“However, taking on a role like this, which is so distinct and represents a different entity altogether, provides me with an entirely new kind of excitement. I thoroughly enjoyed it,” she added.
She acknowledged the support of her producer Amar Kaushik and director Aditya Sarpotdar, who guided her throughout this journey.
“I could only achieve this because I had such a strong, reassuring support system from Amar sir and Aditya sir, who envisioned all of this. As an artist, I approached this with a blank slate and requested their guidance because I had no references,” she explained.
“I was uncertain about what to do, how to approach it, and to what extent. Those gentlemen really took care of me, and here we are,” she added.
‘Thamma’ also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Ayushmann Khurrana, set in a fictional realm. The film sees a crossover with Varun Dhawan’s ‘Bhediya’. This project is part of the broader Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, linking it to the Stree films, Bhediya, and Munjya.
The film, centered around vampires, follows a journalist played by Ayushmann, who becomes entangled in the power dynamics between vampires Rashmika and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Next up for Rashmika is ‘The Girlfriend’, a Telugu romantic drama featuring Dheekshith Shetty, directed by Rahul Ravindran.
The movie is slated to release on November 7, 2025, in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. She will also appear in ‘Cocktail 2’ and ‘Mysaa’.
