Mumbai, Oct 7 (NationPress) Ayushmann Khurrana is preparing for the much-anticipated debut of his horror comedy, 'Thamma', featuring Rashmika Mandanna. The film's intriguing theme of vampires may evoke nostalgic memories of Indian folklore for many, just as it does for the 'Doctor G' star.
In a candid discussion with IANS, Ayushmann reflected on whether he had seen 'Vikram Betaal'. The 'Dream Girl' actor disclosed that he watched it during his youth. He elaborated that his character in 'Thamma' embodies a Betaal endowed with extraordinary powers.
Ayushmann shared with IANS, "Absolutely, I watched 'Vikram Betaal' as a child; it's an integral part of Indian folklore. I portray a Betaal in 'Thamma', signifying the most potent Betaal with immense superpowers. It resembles a superhero film for me, illustrating how an ordinary individual copes with suddenly acquiring superpowers—it’s the amusing aspect of the narrative."
'Thamma' features Ayushmann as Alok, alongside Rashmika as Tadaka, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Yakshasan, and Paresh Rawal as Ram Bajaj Goyal, among others.
"The fact that 'Thamma' is the inaugural love story within the horror comedy universe is incredibly thrilling," Ayushmann disclosed to Variety.com.
Expanding on his upcoming project, the 'Andhadhun' actor remarked, "The promise of it being a 'bloody' love story adds a unique and captivating pitch for today's audience, who seek groundbreaking cinematic experiences. 'Thamma' is that venture—a total wildcard, a film unlike anything seen in India. I'm truly excited to step onto the sets of this film and craft an exceptional big-screen experience with Dinesh and his visionary team, including Amar Kaushik, my director Aditya Sarpotdar, and the brilliant writer Niren Bhatt."
'Thamma' is slated for a theatrical release on October 21 during the Diwali festivities.
