Mumbai, Oct 22 (NationPress) Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana recently visited the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai on Wednesday following the successful release of his film ‘Thamma’.

The actor sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha after ‘Thamma’ achieved the highest opening of his career, with a remarkable INR 25.11 crore nett in India. This record makes it the best opening for an origin story within the MHCU, which includes films like ‘Stree’ and ‘Bhediya’, and lays the groundwork for the ‘Thamma’ franchise to flourish.

Accompanying him was Amar Kaushik, the co-producer of ‘Thamma’, who is also celebrated for his work on ‘Stree’ and ‘Stree 2’.

Featuring a stellar cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal, the film premiered on October 21, 2025, just in time for Diwali. The plot centers around Alok, a historian who accidentally awakens an ancient vampire, Yakshasan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. This encounter leads Alok to become a vampire himself, launching him on a quest to halt Yakshasan's terror. ‘Thamma’ introduces the innovative concept of “betaalism”, setting it apart from conventional Western vampire narratives.

Previously, Ayushmann referred to ‘Thamma’ as the “tentpole” of his career. He reminisced about how his family used to watch superstar movies together each year, and this time, he experienced that joy with his own project.

On the film's impact, Ayushmann expressed, “As an entertainer, it fills me with joy to see audiences embracing Thamma and my performance during this festive Diwali. When Dinesh Vijan, my visionary producer, informed me about the Diwali release, I was over the moon, as it was a dream I had long sought for my career.”

He elaborated on how he has established a unique niche with his quirky films, and he eagerly awaited the chance to present his brand of cinema during Diwali, a festival traditionally associated with blockbuster releases.

‘Thamma’ is a horror-comedy directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under the Maddock Films label.
