Chennai, April 21 (NationPress) Excitement is building for director Rathna Kumar's upcoming romantic comedy, '29 The Film', starring Vidhu and Preethi Asrani in lead roles. The film is officially set to release in theaters on May 8 this year.

The production company, G Squad, made the announcement via their X account, stating, "Social Media is INJURIOUS to @MrRathna. #29TheFilm will be in theaters globally from MAY 8!" They also shared a humorous video featuring director Rathna Kumar and producers Lokesh Kanakaraj and Kaarthekeyan S discussing the release date.

In the amusing video, Rathna Kumar eagerly asks for a release date, while Lokesh and Kaarthekeyan jokingly tease him before finally agreeing. Their condition? He must stay off Twitter and other social media platforms. Eventually, the date of May 8 is confirmed.

It’s worth noting that filming for '29 The Film' concluded on January 30 this year.

Rathna Kumar shared his excitement on X, posting a photo of a cake that read 'Shoot Wrap' and a video of the crew celebrating by smashing a ceremonial pumpkin, dubbing it "Poosinikaaaa Day".

The film has already piqued the interest of audiences with its intriguing title teaser, which features a series of 29-year-old men being asked about their identities. While some respond with their names or careers, the protagonist, lost in thought as he gazes out a bus window, admits he doesn’t know who he is. At that moment, the heroine, Preethi Asrani, boards the bus and takes a seat beside him.

This project is a collaboration between two prominent Tamil cinema production houses: G Squad, under the direction of Lokesh Kanakaraj, and Stone Bench Productions, led by Karthik Subbaraj.

During the title teaser launch event, Rathna Kumar shared, "The first time I had suicidal thoughts was at 29. That experience shifted my perspective on life positively, and now people see me as a beacon of positivity."

Rathna Kumar also mentioned that the film was shot in just 35 to 40 days. He emphasized that while his previous rom-com, 'Meyaadha Maan', leaned heavily on comedy, this film will focus more on romance.

Written and directed by Rathna Kumar, '29 The Film' stars Vidhu and Preethi Asrani alongside a talented cast including Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Premkumar. The film features co-direction by Mathankumar, with music composed by Sean Roldan.

Cinematography is handled by Madhesh Manickam, while R S Sathish Kumar is responsible for editing. Shanmugaraja oversees the film's art direction, and costumes are designed by Praveen Raja. Action scenes are choreographed by Don Ashok, with lyrics penned by Uma Devi and Bakkiyam Shankar, and dance sequences choreographed by Sherif M and Leelavathi.
