Mumbai, Aug 17 (NationPress) Actress Regena Cassandrra, eagerly anticipating the release of her new film ‘The Wives’, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, possesses a remarkable photographic memory. In a recent conversation with IANS, she reminisced about the journey that led her to her debut film.
Regena recalls every detail, even the outfit she donned for her audition. She made her initial appearance in ‘Kanda Naal Mudhal’ at just 14, a film directed by V. Priya, who was previously an assistant to the renowned director Mani Ratnam. This film also marked Priya’s directorial debut.
“That memory is my favorite; it’s firmly etched in my mind with vivid visuals (laughs). I can still picture what I wore to the audition. I had worked with Priya ma’am on a documentary when I was around 8 or 9 years old. We lost contact, but five years later, I received an audition call. After completing the audition, the team asked me to wait for the director. When she emerged, we both squealed, and the rest is history,” she shared with IANS.
Regena added, “I was overjoyed to collaborate with her for my debut. It’s such a cherished memory for both of us. ‘Kanda Naal Mudhal’ introduced me to a world I had no idea would become my career. Acting was merely a hobby for me back then.”
When discussing her experience working with Madhur Bhandarkar on 'The Wives', she expressed, “This has been the most rewarding experience I’ve had. I consider myself a director’s actor, and being aligned with my director is crucial. Madhur Bhandarkar is exceptionally talented and multi-dimensional.”
“He understands precisely how to draw the best performance from his actors. I admire the way he represents women in his films. How many directors today write specifically for women? I feel fortunate to work with him on a project like ‘The Wives’,” she concluded.
