Mumbai, June 24 (NationPress) Actor Saanand Verma has shared insights about his role in the series “First Copy,” describing it as one of the most intricate characters he has ever played.

The ‘Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain’ star revealed that his role is intricately connected to the genuine dynamics of the entertainment industry, providing an authentic and engaging perspective on the complexities hidden behind the glitz of show business. Speaking about his character, Verma explained, “I portray the right-hand man of a prominent Bollywood film producer, played by Ehsaan Grover. My character is deeply involved with him—he’s the problem-solver, the dependable aide. In the narrative, the producer falls victim to piracy. A film that is never released gets leaked, igniting a massive conflict. I have a more significant presence in Season 2, but my journey begins in Season 1. This role is captivating due to its depth concerning real industry dynamics.”

Saanand further stated, “I witnessed the impact of piracy on cinema during the '90s. While I may not have watched films at home on VCRs, I observed neighbors and people in the community enjoying pirated VHS tapes in large gatherings—50, 60, or even 100 individuals crowding into one house, watching films back-to-back all night long. They would rent VCRs, binge-watch three films, and return the equipment the following morning. That excitement, that underground film culture, I experienced firsthand. Hence, when this storyline reached me, I felt a profound personal connection.”

The 'Mardaani' actor elaborated on the title First Copy, explaining that it refers to pirated or counterfeit versions of original products. He drew a parallel, highlighting how luxury items, such as a ₹5 lakh Rolex, often have cheaper imitations sold at a fraction of the cost. Within the cinematic context, he noted that First Copy pertains to films intended for theatrical release that are illicitly duplicated and distributed for home viewing.

Additionally, while discussing his collaboration with Munawar Faruqui, Saanand mentioned, “He’s astute, humorous, and exceptionally sharp. It’s hard to believe it’s his first time acting in a fictional series—he was so at ease, as if he had been doing it for 25 years. There was no anxiety; he was completely absorbed in his role. Collaborating with him was a delight. Thanks to this show, we’ve also formed a great friendship. I genuinely appreciate him—not only as an artist but also as an individual. He possesses charm, humility, and a fantastic sense of humor.”
