Mumbai, March 18 (NationPress) In a heartfelt throwback interview, the late iconic actor Shashi Kapoor candidly discussed his personal insights, describing himself as “a very foolish, lazy, and sluggish person.”

The actor, celebrated for his significant contributions to Indian cinema, offered an honest reflection on his work ethic and aspirations. In a previous interview with Prasar Bharati, Shashi Kapoor, who had a long-standing passion for direction since childhood, reminisced about his initial experiences in filmmaking. He mentioned collaborating with his friend, Prayag, on directing projects, and how esteemed industry figures like the legendary Manmohan Desai and Shyam Bengal encouraged him to pursue directing. Bengal even proposed to write a script for him, providing a chance for him to transition behind the camera.

In the video, the actor expressed, “I am a very foolish person, first of all. Secondly, I am a very lazy and sluggish person. I have always had an interest in direction since childhood, when Prayag and I used to direct together. After that, my friends like Manmohan Desai and other friends also told me to direct something. Even Shyam Bengal sir told me that he would write the script and I could direct it.”

The ‘Suhaag’ actor further mentioned, “But the problem is that if I’m working as an actor in someone else's film, I feel it would be wrong to direct and act in the same movie because I wouldn't be able to concentrate properly on my own film. I wouldn't be able to give enough time to my own picture.”

Today (March 18) marks Shashi Kapoor’s 87th birth anniversary. On this special occasion, Prasar Bharati Archives shared the nostalgic video of the actor on their Instagram account.

Kareena Kapoor also took to social media to honor her late grandfather, Shashi Kapoor, on his 87th birthday. She reshared a fan-made edit video showcasing Shashi’s iconic songs and some of his most unforgettable performances. Sharing the touching video, Bebo simply added a red heart emoji.

Shashi Kapoor's grandson, Zahan Kapoor, who is also Kunal Kapoor's son, paid a heartfelt tribute to his ‘Dadaji.’ Zahan posted two rare photos of Shashi Kapoor on Instagram with the caption: “Salagirah dadaji.”

In the year 2017, Shashi Kapoor's health began to decline, leading to hospitalization due to a reported chest infection. Tragically, he passed away on December 4, 2017, due to liver cirrhosis, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian cinema.
