Actress Shweta Tripathi and her rapper-actor husband Chaitnya Sharma have returned to the theatre together for the play 'External Affairs', directed once again by Akarsh Khurana — the same director under whose guidance the couple first met in a rehearsal room years ago. For the first time in their careers, the real-life partners are portraying a romantic couple on stage, making the production a deeply personal milestone.

Where It All Began

The connection between Shweta Tripathi and Chaitnya Sharma traces back to a rehearsal room under Akarsh Khurana's direction — a setting that now serves as the backdrop for their reunion on stage. The symmetry is not lost on Tripathi, who describes the experience as both exciting and meaningful.

'Chaitnya and I are coming back to where we first met, with Akarsh, and for the first time, we're playing a romantic couple. It's exciting and beautiful, personal partners now are professional partners as well. Sometimes, a stage is just a stage. And sometimes, it's where everything begins.. again,' she said.

For Shweta Tripathi, the return to live performance is rooted in something fundamental to her craft. 'Theatre is where I learnt how to listen, how to respond, how to just be. There's no filter, no second take just you and the moment. Theatre isn't just where my journey began; it's where my imagination first learned how to fly,' she said.

She also reflected on what theatre offers audiences in an age of constant distraction. 'Today, we're all so distracted, always looking at our phones or thinking about what's next. But in a theatre, something shifts. You're fully present. You're listening, feeling, reacting together. It's rare, and it's beautiful,' she added.

Mirzapur Movie on the Horizon

Beyond the stage, Shweta Tripathi is gearing up for a major screen outing. She will next appear in 'Mirzapur — The Movie', which is locked for a 4 September release. The film is an adaptation of the popular web series centred on Akhandanand 'Kaleen' Tripathi, a crime boss who rules the Mirzapur district in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.

The movie features new cast additions alongside returning stars, including Jitendra Kumar, Sonal Chouhan, and Ravi Kishan, joining the franchise's established ensemble.

The Mirzapur Universe

The original series starred Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in its first season. The second season retained the core cast — minus Massey and Pilgaonkar — and added Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas, and Neha Sargam. The upcoming theatrical film expands the universe further with fresh faces alongside franchise veterans.
