Mumbai, Nov 28 (NationPress) Shweta Tripathi, an actor and producer, is broadening her narrative landscape with the horror film Nava, expressing that it feels akin to unlocking a door to a genre she has long admired.
This film represents her second production endeavor following the queer drama Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, which features Tilottama Shome.
In a conversation with IANS regarding Nava, Shweta shared: “Entering the realm of horror with Nava is like opening a door to a genre I’ve always looked up to, and now I am ready to immerse myself in it. What thrilled me the most was how the script utilizes fear, not merely as a tool for scares, but as an emotion deeply embedded in memory, environment, and heritage.”
“The Sundarbans serves as a backdrop in this narrative, almost acting as a character itself, embodying both beauty and discomfort simultaneously, which immediately convinced me to be involved,” she remarked.
Shweta mentioned that as a producer, “she is attracted to narratives that astonish, challenge limits, and respect the cultural contexts from which they arise.”
She added: “Nava encapsulates all these aspects with immense passion and conviction. Partnering with Kowatanda Films India felt entirely natural because we share a mutual desire for bold, intricate storytelling. This film is a significant leap, and that’s precisely why I was eager to produce it.”
Set in the hauntingly striking yet daunting wetlands of the Sundarbans, Nava narrates the tale of Tara, who returns to her ancestral home only to become ensnared in a spine-chilling, generational mystery involving river deities, hidden family secrets, and the unsettling merging of myth and memory.
The actress is also set to appear in the film adaptation of “Mirzapur,” a widely recognized crime-thriller series that revolves around Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a crime lord and businessman who is the de facto ruler of the Mirzapur district in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.
The primary cast in the inaugural season includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
The second season retains the main cast from the first season, except for Vikrant and Shriya, introducing new members including Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas, and Neha Sargam.
The film adaptation of the series is reportedly expected to release in 2026.
