Television actress Smriti Khaannaa is gearing up for a sharp departure from her familiar screen persona with the upcoming micro-drama series 'They Chose Wrong Enemy', set to stream on Kuku TV. The actress, best known for 'Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann', says the project pushed her into entirely new physical and creative territory — most notably, performing sword-fighting sequences for the very first time.

What drew Smriti to the project

Speaking about her decision to join the series, Smriti said, 'They Chose the Wrong Enemy' stood out for its blend of futuristic storytelling and action. 'They Chose the Wrong Enemy has a very modern concept with AI-driven elements and advanced combat techniques, making it feel ahead of its time. It's also an adaptation of a hugely successful Chinese drama, so the story is gripping and fast-paced,' she said.

The actress added that the prospect of sword-fighting under professional supervision was the single biggest draw: 'What excited me the most was getting the opportunity to perform sword-fighting sequences for the first time under the guidance of a fight master. That challenge really inspired me to be a part of this project, and I'm sure the audience will enjoy this exciting series.'

Her character and look

Smriti plays a warrior from Brahmashila, described in the series as a prestigious Gurukul that trains exceptional fighters. 'My character is courageous and disciplined. My look is a modern interpretation of a warrior, with a powerful and stylish costume that makes the character visually striking,' she explained.

The role marks a visible reinvention for the actress, who has previously been associated with more domestic, family-oriented characters across her television career.

The physical demands of sword fighting

Smriti was candid about the challenges of the action sequences. 'The sword-fighting sequences were the most challenging because I had never done sword fighting before, and the sword was quite heavy. Our fight master was extremely supportive and guided me throughout,' she said.

She described the process as physically intensive: learning correct body posture, precise movements, and combat choreography — all while repeating each scene from multiple camera angles. 'It was physically demanding but a wonderful learning experience,' she noted.

Why micro-dramas are connecting with audiences

On the rising popularity of short-form content, Smriti offered a straightforward take: 'I think audiences today have a shorter attention span, and micro dramas fit perfectly into their lifestyle. Each episode is only two minutes long, making it easy to watch anytime, anywhere.'

She also highlighted the storytelling discipline the format demands. 'In micro dramas, there is very little time to establish emotions, so every expression and dialogue has to make an impact immediately. The key is to be honest and natural so the audience connects with the character, even within a short scene,' she said.

The finite nature of the series — a complete story with no open-ended commitment — is another factor she believes is drawing viewers in.
