Mumbai, Sep 25 (NationPress) Actress Somy Ali reminisced about a cherished experience with the late Om Puri on a film set, showcasing his consideration even during dramatic scenes.
In her recent Instagram post, she recounted how the esteemed actor consistently checked to see if he was being too rough while pulling her hair, underscoring his compassion and professionalism off-camera. Sharing a clip from the film “Chupp,” Somy Ali expressed, “Oh boy! This #tbt has way too many fun stories despite the script being a nightmare. It’s a remake of Kakaji’s film, ITEFAQ. How could I resist? It was an art film, meaning no songs and dances! Yippee!!!! The late Mr. Om Puri right before swaying me back and forth on that chair while being oh so cruel was sharing the best biryani recipe, and I was literally taking notes. My descent in a yellow sari while dealing with vertigo was nothing short of an Oscar-worthy performance. I was terrified, but I turned down a body double. Yay! Me!
Continuing her narrative about the legendary actor Jeetendra, Ali shared, “Then there was the phenomenal Jeetu ji whose presence made me anxious each time he entered my car used in the film. I had only learned to drive a stick shift a week prior, thanks to a friend for the role. Coming from the U.S., I was accustomed to automatics. Jeetu ji kept trying to soothe my nerves and guide me on when to shift gears. It was quite the bumpy ride (pun intended). I believe he was more frightened of my driving than I was of crashing with him. What crazy times!”
Somy Ali also reflected on the remarkable Avinash, describing him as one of the most talented and genuine actors she had ever worked with. She continued, “I will forever cherish the kindness of all three actors. Jeetu ji would often sit me down and offer life advice, sometimes just before ‘action.’ Om ji was always cracking jokes on set and frequently asked if he was being too harsh while pulling my hair, to which I replied no, leading us to burst into laughter mid-shot as he dragged me up the stairs. I will always remember working with such amazing individuals. They genuinely cared about my well-being every shooting day, far beyond mere niceties.”
“Chupp,” the thriller released in 1997, was produced by Ramesh U Lakhiani and Keshav R Tolani under the Kay Aar Films banner, directed by Ambrish Sangal. This film featured Jeetendra, Om Puri, Somy Ali, and Avinash Wadhavan. It is a remake of the 1989 Kannada thriller “Tarka,” which was inspired by Agatha Christie’s play “The Unexpected Guest.”
