Mumbai, May 5 (NationPress) Singer Sonu Nigam has expressed regret to the people of Karnataka following his exclusion from the Kannada Film Industry due to a controversial comment regarding the Kannada language.

The renowned playback artist shared on his official Instagram account, "Sorry Karnataka. My affection for you surpasses my ego. Love you forever."

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) made the decision to suspend all professional interactions with Sonu Nigam after his remarks, which incited significant backlash. The chamber has demanded an apology from him.

M. Narasimhalu, the KFCC chairman, mentioned that all members of the chamber unanimously decided to implement a non-cooperation policy against Sonu Nigam. "He will face a boycott until he issues an unconditional apology," he stated.

“In the upcoming two to three days, we will reconvene to assess further actions to ensure he remains uninvolved here. Our position will persist until he provides a public apology for his comments,” the chairman added.

Previously, Sonu Nigam released an open letter on social media, indicating that he would leave it to the reasonable individuals of Karnataka to determine who is at fault. "I will embrace your verdict graciously," the letter stated.

The Bengaluru Rural Police have also served a notice to Sonu Nigam, instructing him to meet with the investigating officer within a week. This notice follows an FIR filed against him at the Avalahalli Police Station, prompted by a complaint from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV).

On May 1, during a performance at East Point College in Virgonagar, Bengaluru, an audience member requested Sonu Nigam to sing a Kannada song.

Annoyed by the request's tone, Sonu Nigam halted his performance and made a contentious remark, stating, "It is due to such behavior that incidents like the Pahalgam attack occur."

This statement ignited outrage among segments of the Kannada-speaking community, leading a pro-Kannada organization to file a complaint against him for allegedly inciting linguistic discord.

Point of View

This incident highlights the delicate balance between freedom of expression and cultural sensitivities in India. While Sonu Nigam's comments have sparked outrage, they also underscore the importance of understanding regional sentiments and the consequences of public statements by influential figures.
