Mumbai, May 5 (NationPress) Following the filing of an FIR against him for associating the demand for a Kannada song with the tragic Pahalgam incident, singer Sonu Nigam has released an open letter, expressing his profound affection for the Kannada language.
In a post on his Instagram, the 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' artist stated, "I have shown unmatched love for the language, culture, music, musicians, state, and its people, not just while in Karnataka but anywhere around the globe. In fact, I have treasured my Kannada songs far more than those in other languages, including Hindi. There are hundreds of videos circulating online as proof. I prepare over an hour of Kannada songs for every concert when in Karnataka."
Nonetheless, Sonu Nigam emphasized that he refuses to be belittled by anyone in the name of language, especially by someone as young as his own son.
The singer remarked that he attempted to soothe the audience, assuring them that the performance had just commenced and he had an exciting setlist planned. He added, "Their own people felt embarrassed and were urging them to quiet down. I kindly and lovingly informed them that the show had just begun, it was my first song, and I wouldn’t let them down, but they had to allow me to proceed with the concert as planned. Every artist has a setlist prepared to keep musicians and technicians in sync. Yet, they were determined to cause a disturbance and threatened me aggressively. Who, then, is to blame?"
"I leave it to the wise individuals of Karnataka to determine who is at fault here. I will gracefully accept your verdict," Sonu Nigam concluded.
On May 1, during a performance in Bengaluru, Sonu Nigam noticed an audience member demanding a Kannada song.
He halted his performance and made a controversial comment stating, "It is due to such behavior that incidents like the Pahalgam attack occur."
Following his statement, an FIR was lodged at the Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru by various Kannada organizations. The FIR was filed based on a complaint from Dharmaraj A., President of the Bengaluru City District Unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.
