Mumbai, May 5 (NationPress) - The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has made a definitive decision to suspend all professional interactions with renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam following his contentious remarks that ignited a significant uproar.
This resolution comes in light of escalating criticism, with the chamber demanding an apology from the singer. M. Narasimhalu, the chairman of KFCC, addressed the media, revealing that all factions within the chamber have reached a consensus to implement a non-cooperation stance against Nigam. He stated, “All the components of the Chamber have come together to decide that Sonu Nigam will be boycotted from this moment; no one will invite him for performances, nor will anyone engage in any activities with him. A further decision will be made in the next 2-3 days regarding additional actions against him, and he will remain boycotted until he issues an unconditional apology.”
“We will reconvene in the next few days to assess further actions to ensure he is not involved in any capacity here. Our position will remain firm until he publicly apologizes for his comments,” he added.
Importantly, the Bengaluru Rural Police have issued a directive for Sonu Nigam to appear before the investigating officer within a week. This follows an FIR registered against him at the Avalahalli Police Station based on a complaint by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV).
For those unaware, Sonu Nigam faced backlash after an incident during his recent concert at East Point College in Virgonagar, Bengaluru, where he refused a fan's request to sing a Kannada song. During the event, he expressed discomfort with the requester's tone and controversially compared the situation to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
His statements incited anger among some members of the Kannada-speaking community, leading a pro-Kannada organization to file a complaint accusing him of inciting linguistic discord.
