Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Sree Leela will play a character named Roja in the highly anticipated action entertainer Om, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and starring Dhanush and Mammootty in the lead roles. The revelation came on Tuesday, 3 November, when production house Wunderbar Films shared a brief video of the film's third single, Senjudare, which features Sree Leela. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on 20 November 2025.
Character Reveal and Third Single
Sharing the Senjudare video on its X timeline, Wunderbar Films wrote: 'She arrives to light up a bright smile. Introducing @sreeleela14 as Roja - Senjudare, third single from #OM drops Tomorrow. Worldwide release on November 20th. A @Rajkumar_KP Film. A @SaiAbhyankkar melodious magical.' The announcement adds further momentum to a campaign that has been steadily building fan anticipation through character introductions.
Sai Pallavi as IPS Officer Nithya Reddy
Earlier, the makers had unveiled that actress Sai Pallavi plays Nithya Reddy, an IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, in the film. According to the character video released by the makers, Nithya Reddy is subsequently inducted into the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as Additional Superintendent, where she works alongside Interpol. Notably, she is described as the officer running the covert operation titled 'OM' itself.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy, introducing the character on X, wrote: 'HER! The PERFORMER @Sai_Pallavi92, You will never cease to amaze! Here's #SaiPallavi as #NithyaReddy, IPS, Naidupeta Ammayi frOM #OM.' Sai Pallavi responded: 'Dear @Rajkumar_KP sir, Thank you so much for choosing me again and this time play to play Nithya Reddy! I see my alter ego in her.' This is the second collaboration between Periasamy and Sai Pallavi, following their critically acclaimed film Amaran.
Release Date Shift and Background
Om was originally scheduled for release on 16 October, but Dhanush announced a postponement out of respect for superstar Rajinikanth, whose film Jailer 2 was releasing on 15 October. The film was also kept away from the Deepavali slot after actor Suriya's film was already announced for that date. 20 November was subsequently confirmed as the new release date.
The film has generated considerable excitement as it marks the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Dhanush and Malayalam superstar Mammootty. Mammootty plays a character named Karthikeyan in the film, a detail director Periasamy disclosed at the title teaser launch in June. At the time, around 60 to 65 per cent of filming had been completed.
Cast, Crew and Scale
Beyond its leading trio, Om also features Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah. The unit shot portions of the film in Malaysia, and Mammootty marked his recent National Award win on the film's sets alongside fellow National Award recipients — Dhanush, director Rajkumar Periasamy, and editor Kalaivanan. The title carries the tagline Chapter 1, hinting at a franchise arc.
According to the title teaser, the story centres on labourers who cut red sanders for a living, with Dhanush portraying a woodcutter. The teaser showed police rounding up workers caught chopping red sanders illegally, with Dhanush stepping in to rescue them. Wunderbar Films head Sreyas described Om as one of the biggest budget films of Dhanush's career and promised a return of 'mass vintage Dhanush' for fans. Music for the film is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, with cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan R, and costumes by Kavya Sriram.
With the third single set to drop and the release less than three weeks away, all eyes are now on whether Om can translate its considerable pre-release buzz into box-office results.
