Mumbai, March 9 (NationPress) Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, who was recently seen in ‘Jawan’, has a newly unveiled space—a special suite dedicated to him at the current edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA).
The exclusive suite is crafted by designer Shantanu Garg. He recognized that this was no ordinary assignment, as he received no formal brief for the design. Instead, he was granted complete creative liberty to transform the area into something befitting Bollywood’s greatest star. How often does an artist receive such freedom?
The design draws inspiration from the Art Deco style, a decorative art form linked to the golden era of cinema.
Elaborating on the concept behind the suite, Shantanu stated, “I aimed for the space to feel like an extension of his world—a fusion of luxury, heritage, and timeless elegance. The Art Deco style was ideal because it resonates with the grandeur of classic Bollywood while maintaining a contemporary feel. Every detail was meticulously crafted to create an experience beyond just a hotel stay. Trunks Company Jaipur designed unique storage trunks that infused a sense of vintage elegance, while Jaipur Rugs supplied antique carpets that anchored the space in historic charm.”
He also noted, “Soft furnishings, such as plush bed linens, robes, and towels, were custom-made by Golden Drape, ensuring a luxurious sensory experience. Attitudes India contributed striking Art Deco-inspired furniture and vanities, which incorporated deep red hues reminiscent of classic theaters. Pieces sourced internationally from Villa Interieur added an eclectic, global flair.”
When Shantanu finally met Shah Rukh Khan, it was a moment he would cherish forever. He recalled, “Despite being the biggest superstar, he was remarkably humble and welcoming. His appreciation for craftsmanship was evident—he noticed everything from the monogrammed bed linens to the handcrafted trunks and Art Deco furniture.”
One particular item captured SRK’s interest: a rare antique rock crystal bowl, adorned with the Arabic inscription ‘Mashallah’. He was captivated by it. “It was a special moment to see him connect with these thoughtful details,” the designer mentioned.
The interaction was further enhanced by SRK’s signature charm. Shantanu shared, “He embraced me and even playfully pinched my cheek; it felt surreal.”
Designing for Shah Rukh Khan was about more than just aesthetics; it was about capturing an essence.
Shantanu expressed, “This wasn’t merely a hotel suite; it was a space that needed to embody who he is: timeless, charismatic, and profoundly linked to his craft.”
Looking ahead, he hopes this will not be the final project he undertakes for the Bollywood icon. “If given another chance to create a space for him, I’d love to push the boundaries even further. Designing for someone like SRK is a dream; you want every detail to be flawless because he genuinely appreciates the artistry behind it,” he concluded.
