Los Angeles, Sep 13 (NationPress) The renowned pop star Taylor Swift will not be required to give testimony under oath in the current legal proceedings involving Hollywood actress Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni.
A judge has determined that Swift will not be deposed by Baldoni's legal representation, as reported by Female First UK.
The filmmaker behind It Ends With Us had sought to have the Karma singer participate in a legal meeting as part of his dispute with Lively, who is suing him and his production company Wayfarer Studios for claims including sexual harassment and retaliation.
According to Female First UK, the federal judge presiding over the matter has denied a motion to delay a deadline to allow Swift to attend a deposition following the release of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Judge Lewis Liman stated in a four-page ruling obtained by Deadline, "The Wayfarer Parties argue that their requested extension is essential because Swift's existing professional commitments prevent her from being deposed within the current discovery period. However, they have not adequately demonstrated good cause for this request. Their sole reason for the extension is the claim that Swift’s existing professional obligations will hinder her availability for a deposition before October 20, 2025."
He further remarked, "Crucially, the Wayfarer Parties have not provided any information about when they began their attempts to schedule the deposition. Discovery in this case has been active for around six months. They initially requested Swift’s deposition in May 2025 but later withdrew the subpoena. No evidence has been presented that they have issued a renewed subpoena to Swift. Therefore, at most, they have shown that scheduling the deposition now poses logistical challenges; this does not explain why it 'could not have been conducted earlier'. Having failed to display appropriate diligence, the request for an extension is denied."
Simultaneously, the judge approved Lively's plea for a 10-day delay on depositions for Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios co-founders, Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath. Swift's attorney has indicated that while the 35-year-old singer did not consent to the deposition, she would comply if mandated.
