The makers of The India Story unveiled the film's poster on Thursday, 18 June, revealing Kajal Aggarwal as a sharp-edged lawyer and Shreyas Talapade as a grief-stricken father at the centre of a courtroom battle over food adulteration. Directed by Chettan DK, the film targets one of India's most underreported public health crises and is set for a worldwide theatrical release on 24 July.

What the Poster Reveals

The newly released poster places a pesticide cylinder inside a witness box against the backdrop of the Bombay High Court — a deliberate visual cue pointing to the film's courtroom-driven narrative. A young girl, portraying Talapade's daughter, appears alongside the two leads, underscoring the human cost of contaminated food. The imagery is stark and intentional: justice sought for a harm that is widespread but rarely prosecuted.

Director Chettan DK said in a statement: 'The India Story is the story of every Indian whose family or loved ones have been affected by food adulteration. It highlights one of the most neglected yet serious problems in our society — something that impacts each one of us in our daily lives.'

Regulatory enforcement has long been criticised as inconsistent, and consumer awareness remains limited despite recurring health scares linked to contaminated edibles. By framing the issue as a courtroom thriller, The India Story attempts to translate a systemic public health failure into a narrative that general audiences can engage with emotionally.

This comes amid growing calls for stricter implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, with civil society groups arguing that existing penalties are insufficient to deter large-scale adulteration.

The film is produced by Sagar B Shinde, with co-producers Swati Vinayak Saindane, Anita Jadhav, Vinayak Saidani, Kalpesh Shah, Devyani Khorate, and Prem Joshi.
