Los Angeles, May 27 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is currently engaged in serious discussions about resurrecting his Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman for a spinoff film.
In a recent chat with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast while promoting “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning”, director Christopher McQuarrie revealed that he and Cruise are having “serious” conversations about a standalone Les Grossman movie, as reported by people.com.
“The discussions we’ve had about Les Grossman are incredibly funny,” McQuarrie, 56, shared during the podcast.
“(Cruise and I are) exploring how best to approach it and what we can do with it.”
McQuarrie mentioned that amid the significant challenges of filming “The Final Reckoning”, they found relief in discussing the chaotic character.
In the 2008 film directed by Ben Stiller, Cruise’s Grossman is notorious for his explosive temperament and oversized hands, not to mention his entertaining dance moves.
“Being able to sit at a breakfast table and not discuss the movie for a moment is such a relief. Just riffing with Tom while he embodies Les Grossman was one of the true highlights of this project,” McQuarrie noted.
“We were planning for the future while tackling the present.”
Cruise's latest endeavor sees him reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in what could be the conclusive Mission: Impossible film, which received a five-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.
A video shared by The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner showed Cruise expressing his gratitude to the festival audience, stating he was “very thankful” to be part of a franchise he has led for three decades.
He also acknowledged McQuarrie, who has directed four films in the Mission: Impossible series.
“Every step of the way, your contributions have expanded our vision, surpassing all expectations,” Cruise added, referring to the director as “absolutely brilliant.”
“Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” is currently showing in theaters.
