Mumbai, Aug 8 (NationPress) The highly anticipated film “Udaipur Files”, starring Vijay Raaz, has officially been launched in 4,500 theaters across India following its clearance from the censor board.
“Udaipur Files” narrates the tragic story of the Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Kumar, who was murdered for allegedly sharing a social media post that supported Indian politician and former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. This incident was a part of the 2022 controversy regarding Muhammad remarks.
Upon the film’s debut, Kanhaiya Kumar’s son Yash Sahu stated, “This film, released today, is based on the incident involving my father, which occurred on June 28, 2022. It illustrates how my father was killed as part of a terrorist conspiracy linked to Pakistan.”
“The film also highlights the NIA's chart sheet. It conveys a powerful message that such incidents can be brought to light through cinema,” he added.
Yash expressed his family’s ongoing pursuit of justice, stating, “I have pursued many cases, but in this instance, I have yet to see any consequences for the criminals involved. A substantial amount of time has elapsed.”
“Three years is a significant duration. The perpetrator remains in custody but has not faced sentencing. I hope that after viewing this film, the public will rally behind us in our quest for justice, and these criminals will receive the punishment they deserve.”
When addressing the hurdles faced during the film's release, Yash mentioned, “Numerous challenges emerged, including a stay order from the Delhi High Court just a day before its initial release date of July 11.”
“Despite these obstacles, we continued to strive for its release, facing further challenges in the Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the film's release, emphasizing that certified films by the CBFC should be made available to the audience. The decision was then passed on to the Central Government, which also approved its release yesterday.”
The assailants had previously released a video claiming that the murder was a response to the tailor’s alleged social media post supporting former BJP member Nupur Sharma. One of the accused, Javed, had appealed to the Supreme Court against the film's release.
Regarding the film's release, Kanhaiya Kumar’s wife, Jasoda Sahu, shared that she personally wrote to the Prime Minister seeking permission for the film to launch.
She stated, “This film authentically portrays our family’s suffering and struggle, and it is crucial for the entire nation to witness it.”
The film was initially scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025, but faced numerous delays due to censorship and legal complications.
