Mumbai, Aug 17 (NationPress) Director Umesh Shukla, known for his recent theatrical release ‘Heer Express’, has addressed the intriguing topic of art and rebellion.
During a promotional interview with IANS for ‘Heer Express’, the director emphasized that a rebellion without a solid foundation can lead to chaos. He highlighted the importance of conducting detailed research regarding the cause one supports.
Shukla stated, “Instead of being merely rebellious, I advocate for truth. Being rebellious should not mean expressing something incorrect. There needs to be rationality. One must truly study and comprehend the cause they support. Your research should be extensive. If your statement is half-hearted, it can lead to rejection and backlash. When your claims are backed by thorough research, they tend to resonate.”
He further elaborated, “In ‘Oh My God’, we addressed themes of fear and love towards God, emphasizing ‘Don’t fear God, love him’. We explored the differences among faith, superstition, and misguided beliefs. Therefore, regardless of your intent to rebel, performing adequate research is essential, as it leads to unexpected questions and deeper understanding.”
Previously, the director, who has also worked on ‘OMG – Oh My God’, revealed his background as a priest, performing rituals in people's homes.
He shared, “Coming from a Brahmin family, I used to conduct rituals like Satyanayan pooja, Lakshmi pooja, and others until my graduation. I would participate in these ceremonies, dressed in a dhoti and kurta. This upbringing led me to question many practices alongside my father and grandfather, which unveiled certain inconsistencies.”
‘Heer Express’ is currently screening in theaters.
