Los Angeles, Feb 5 (NationPress) Singer-songwriter Usher and actress Jennifer Hudson were poised to share the screen together at one point. Even more intriguing? They were nearly cast as on-screen siblings.

However, the plans didn't materialize as anticipated. On Tuesday, February 4, Usher made an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where he disclosed to the audience and Hudson that he almost starred alongside her in Dreamgirls. During his visit, Hudson, 43, inquired about how they first crossed paths, according to reports from People magazine.

The singer mentioned that their initial meeting stemmed from when he first viewed her audition tape for a project he had heard she was preparing for. “You didn't know that I was supposed to be a part of that movie, this movie you went on to win a major, major award for,” Usher noted.

Per People, he was alluding to Hudson's Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White in the 2006 musical film.

“Are you referring to ‘Dreamgirls’?” Hudson exclaimed. “Wait, you were going to be in ‘Dreamgirls’?”

Usher playfully replied, “Yes.” A surprised Hudson asked about the character he was supposed to play, stating to the audience, “I didn’t even know this, y’all. I didn't know you didn't know the story,” he responded.

He then elaborated that he was in the midst of a tour at the time, and “it was a scheduling conflict that prevented me from taking on the role.”

Although Usher didn’t specify which character he was meant to portray, Playbill reported in May 2005 that he was set to play C.C. White, the sibling of Hudson’s Effie. Ultimately, the part was given to Keith Robinson.

“I was thrilled about what was about to unfold. [I] did my utmost to rearrange my schedule, but unfortunately, it just didn’t allow for it,” Usher mentioned. “I would have been part of history with you.”

“But I am part of history with you because we all recognize you for being such an inspiring talent for our young women,” he concluded.
