Los Angeles, Nov 4 (NationPress) Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence maintains a positive view of director David O. Russell, stating she has never felt degraded or yelled at during their collaborations.
The actress, aged 35, has worked alongside the filmmaker on three notable films: ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ in 2021, ‘American Hustle’ in 2013, and ‘Joy’ in 2015, receiving Oscar nominations for all. She won a Best Actress award for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and insists her experience with O. Russell has been positive.
In an appearance on The Interview podcast, she remarked, "I felt that David communicated in a straightforward manner. I never felt degraded or yelled at by him. If he didn't like something, he would say, ‘That was terrible. Looked like s***. Do it better.’ That was a constructive discussion. How so? I don’t know. ‘Slower! Not so loud!’ I’m not sensitive. I’m unsure how one can be in this industry.”
According to Female First UK, Amy Adams, her co-star in ‘American Hustle’, previously revealed that the director made her cry on set, prompting Jennifer to question whether they received different treatment.
She reflected, "Perhaps he was tougher on (Amy Adams) than on me; I can’t say for sure. Yes, I’m sensitive. I’m very sensitive. I don’t know.”
Amy shared her experiences during the filming of ‘American Hustle’ in a 2016 interview with GQ, stating, "Jennifer (Lawrence) doesn’t let it affect her. She’s like Teflon. I, however, am not Teflon. I dislike seeing others mistreated. Life is more significant than films for me. It taught me to separate work from home life. I couldn’t bring the negativity home to my daughter. I was devastated on set, not every day, but most of the time.”
Fellow cast member Christian Bale also discussed the dynamics between Amy and the director in a 2022 GQ interview, indicating he took on the role of a "mediator.”
He explained, "You’re working with two extraordinary talents… when collaborating with the creative forces of Amy or David, tensions can arise.”
“But they are absolutely phenomenal. It’s also crucial to remember the nature of the characters involved; they were not individuals who would back down easily,” he added.
