Los Angeles, Nov 1 (NationPress) Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence is exercising caution regarding her political commentary.
In a candid revelation, the actress expressed her reluctance to engage in political discussions during a recent appearance on a podcast from The New York Times, part of her promotional efforts for ‘Die My Love’. Previously, she was quite vocal against Donald Trump during his first term as U.S. president, famously penning an op-ed post-Election Day where she asserted that Trump’s victory symbolized that “the only individuals who feel safe (in America), whose rights are acknowledged and respected, are white men”.
When probed about her current stance on discussing Trump and political matters, she stated, “I truly don’t know if I should. The first Trump administration was so chaotic, and how can we allow this to continue? I felt like a headless chicken running around. But, as we’ve seen election after election, celebrities don’t significantly influence how people vote. So what am I really doing? I’m merely voicing my thoughts on issues that could exacerbate a divide tearing the nation apart. We are incredibly polarized.”
She elaborated, “I find myself in a complex reassessment because I’m also an artist. Given the current climate and its possible outcomes, I want to avoid alienating audiences from films and art that can transform consciousness or make a positive impact because of my political views.”
“I aim to safeguard my craft, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in my work. If I cannot articulate something that fosters peace or contributes to solutions, I prefer not to be part of the problem. I don’t wish to exacerbate issues. Observing talented actors, who have made remarkable contributions, being shunned by a segment of the internet upsets me deeply; it feels unjust,” she added.
According to Variety, the actress mentioned that she channels her political views through her projects, such as those produced by her production company.
These include “Bread and Roses”, which portrays the lives of three women in Afghanistan amidst the aftermath of the 2021 Taliban takeover, and the abortion documentary ‘Zurawski v Texas’.
“I strive to communicate my political perspectives via my work. Many projects emerging from my production company reflect the political climate, and that's how I believe I can contribute positively,” she concluded.
