Varun shared a close-up image of his arm and biceps on his Instagram stories, showcasing some noticeable scratches and bruises.

He captioned it, “Few of the many bruises this week. War isn't easy.”

On January 16, Varun commenced filming in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh, within the secluded armed forces cantonment areas.

The movie is directed by Anurag Singh and serves as a sequel to the 1997 epic war film “Border”, which centers on the historical Battle of Longewala (1971). Directed by J. P. Dutta, the original film depicted events during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

The cast included Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.

“Border 2” features Sunny, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty alongside Varun, and appears to be inspired by the 1999 Kargil War. In early 1999, Pakistani forces crossed the Line of Control (LoC), seizing Indian territory primarily in the Kargil district.

This sequel boasts a remarkable production team, including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. Directed by Anurag Singh and presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series in collaboration with JP Dutta's J.P. Films, “Border 2” promises an exhilarating narrative filled with themes of patriotism, bravery, and sacrifice.

The film is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.

Varun was last seen in “Baby John”, a remake of Atlee's 2016 Tamil film Theri, which was directed by Kalees and also featured Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, and Jackie Shroff.
