Mumbai, June 6 (NationPress) Prasar Bharati Board Chairman Navneet Sehgal has characterized WAVES as a genuinely ‘desi’ OTT platform, underscoring its dedication to providing clean, family-oriented content.
With a mission to promote wholesome programming that reflects Indian values, Mr. Sehgal expressed that WAVES aspires to be a premier hub for viewers in search of top-quality entertainment suitable for all ages. In a recent discussion with IANS, Navneet Sehgal stressed that WAVES 2025 is indeed a “desi” (Indian) platform, with its primary unique selling proposition (USP) being its focus on clean and family-friendly entertainment. He noted that the platform is open to incorporating appropriate content from any source, as long as it aligns with this vision.
He shared with IANS, “Our fundamental idea and USP for this OTT platform is clean and family entertainment. The goal of WAVES is to offer a venue for local content creators. Numerous creators have reached out to us, and we are actively in search of quality content. If independent creators across the nation can deliver superior content, we will select the best.”
When questioned about potential collaborations with international creators, Navneet Sehgal stated, “We haven’t yet received any proposals for foreign or international content, but if it aligns with our policy—focusing on family-oriented and entertainment-based themes—we might consider it.” He highlighted WAVES’s emphasis on uncovering new, original content and embracing emerging creators. Unlike many platforms that heavily rely on established names and repetitive themes, WAVES seeks to engage younger audiences through innovative storytelling from new talent.
He acknowledged the substantial disruptions the content industry has experienced since the COVID-19 pandemic. Even major filmmakers in Mumbai and significant platforms like Netflix have faced challenges in delivering consistent hits, despite substantial investments in high-budget productions. Although not always publicized, many of these shows have not met expectations. In response to these challenges, Navneet explained WAVES’ meticulous and strategic content selection process. Instead of making indiscriminate investments, the platform rigorously evaluates content to ensure it resonates with audiences—particularly families. The emphasis remains on clean, family-friendly entertainment that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages together.
“We are in pursuit of quality content; we are not solely seeking content from established creators. We welcome new content creators because one of our objectives is to connect with the youth. Engaging with youth requires fresh content from new creators. Since COVID, the content industry has faced significant disruptions. Even prominent filmmakers in Mumbai are finding it challenging to succeed. Even a major platform like Netflix, when they invest heavily in a big show—even if they don’t publicly acknowledge it—some shows have not performed up to their expectations,” he elaborated.
WAVES offers a diverse range of live TV channels, on-demand videos, digital radio, gaming, and e-commerce services—all accessible via a single digital platform. The app is available for both Android and iOS users.
