Harvey Weinstein Responds to Gwyneth Paltrow's Past Allegations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 11 (NationPress) Controversial film producer Harvey Weinstein has spoken out regarding the accusations made by actress Gwyneth Paltrow nearly ten years ago.
Her claims against him were pivotal in sparking the worldwide #MeToo movement, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
At 73 years old and currently incarcerated for sexual offenses in New York and California, Weinstein shared his thoughts during an interview from prison with ‘The Hollywood Reporter’. He expressed that he “won’t forgive” Paltrow for going public about an alleged encounter from her early career. The disgraced producer is now waiting for a retrial after his New York conviction was overturned due to prejudicial testimony presented in the original trial.
Weinstein recounted the allegations made by Paltrow, who is now 53 and stated that she was 22 when he allegedly made an inappropriate advance during a film-related meeting.
According to ‘Female First UK’, Gwyneth was one of many women who publicly accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct in 2017, allegations that significantly contributed to the rise of the #MeToo movement.
Weinstein remarked, “I don’t know what prompted her to react as she did. To make such a major issue over nothing. I left a pleasant meeting with her and proposed, ‘How about a massage?’ and she simply responded, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ I understood the signal. I never laid a hand on her. She informed Brad Pitt. Then, Brad came to me and said, ‘Don’t do anything like that with my girl’. I assured him, ‘Don’t worry, Brad. I got it.’ But then Gwyneth appears on Howard Stern and exaggerates the entire situation. She knows nothing happened. Yet this person, who was a friend and owes her career to me, just betrays me. She wanted to be part of the in-crowd. I will not forgive her for that.”
Paltrow previously disclosed that the alleged incident occurred after a meeting in a hotel room during the early days of her acting career. She mentioned that she rejected Weinstein's advance and subsequently informed her then-boyfriend, Brad Pitt, about the incident. Gwyneth later recounted how Brad confronted Weinstein at the opening night of the play Hamlet on Broadway in 1995.
She told Howard Stern that her ‘Fight Club’ actor partner shoved Weinstein against a wall and warned him, “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.”
Paltrow expressed that she was powerless at the time of the incident but eventually chose to speak out about the alleged behavior as part of a larger reckoning in the film industry.
She stated, “I was expected to keep this a secret. We are at a moment in time when women must send a clear message that this is finished. This way of treating women ends now.”
Gwyneth collaborated with Weinstein on the film Shakespeare in Love, which he produced through Miramax.
