Mumbai, Sep 28 (NationPress) An American residing in India has recounted her experience of obtaining swift and affordable medical care for a thumb injury, showcasing the accessibility and cost-effectiveness of the Indian healthcare system.

Kristen Fischer, who has been living in India for over four years, shared in an Instagram video how she accidentally injured her thumb while preparing vegetables.

The cut was bleeding profusely, prompting her to ride her bicycle to a nearby medical facility.

She spent around 45 minutes at the hospital and, fortunately, did not require stitches. The entire treatment cost her merely Rs 50, approximately 60 cents.

"I cut my thumb, it was bleeding a lot, I rode my bicycle to the local hospital, spent 45 minutes there, and didn’t end up needing stitches, paid 50 rupees, and went home," Fischer explained.

Fischer expressed her astonishment at the convenience of having a hospital just five minutes away from her residence.

She characterized India’s healthcare network as readily accessible and comforting, especially during emergencies.

Moreover, she compared the low treatment costs with the exorbitant expenses in the United States, where monthly health insurance premiums typically range from $1,000 to $2,000.

"They charged me only 50 rupees for the whole experience. For those unaware, that's around 60 cents. Healthcare is significantly more affordable in India than in the USA, where most insurance premiums cost between $1,000 and $2,000 per month!" she emphasized.

The Instagram video went viral, igniting discussions about the disparities between healthcare systems in India and the US.

Social media users lauded Fischer’s experience, noting that India provides medical assistance without the obstacles often encountered in the US.
