Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) The National Health Authority (NHA) has reported that more than 2,600 participants have registered thus far for the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) Auto-Adjudication Hackathon 2026, designed to foster digital innovation in health claims processing, as stated by the government on Monday.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare notes that AB PM-JAY, which is the flagship health assurance initiative, currently handles nearly 50,000 claims each day across over 1,900 treatment packages.
However, only about 15–20 percent of claims are auto-adjudicated, indicating a pressing need for scalable and technology-focused solutions.
The hackathon aims to create sophisticated systems for automated claims adjudication by utilizing artificial intelligence, fraud detection tools, standardized documentation, and real-time verification to enhance speed, accuracy, and transparency.
Additionally, the government has announced that students, researchers, developers, startups, and professionals interested in participating can register for the hackathon until April 13, having commenced on March 31, via the official portal.
To assist participants, the NHA will offer a three-part masterclass series starting on April 13, providing insights into claims processing systems and potential solutions. These sessions are scheduled for April 13, 15, and 16 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
The hackathon will conclude with a two-day offline finale on May 8–9 at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, where teams that are shortlisted will present their solutions to a jury of experts from healthcare, technology, and public policy.
After the presentations, winners will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, and Rs 2 lakh for each problem statement, along with opportunities for potential collaboration with the NHA.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance digital health infrastructure and improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery under the AB PM-JAY scheme, as reported by the government.
