New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) Cancer care for women is a profoundly sensitive matter, remarked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced healthcare facilities across the nation.
During the inauguration of Apollo Athenaa — Asia’s pioneering cancer center exclusively for women, Gupta stated that this initiative will serve women globally.
The newly established women-only cancer hospital guarantees privacy and dignity, offering tailored treatments including robotic-assisted, microscopic, and laparoscopic surgeries. Additionally, it provides a continuum of care services such as nutrition, menopausal health, onco-psychology, physiotherapy, and palliative care.
"Cancer care for women is a profoundly sensitive matter, and it fills me with great satisfaction to witness our steps toward genuine empowerment for women. Apollo Athenaa will serve as a landmark in cancer care, upholding dignity, security, and privacy for every woman," Gupta articulated at the inauguration.
Describing it as a “milestone in the healthcare sector,” Gupta commented that the women-specific cancer treatment center “will benefit not only the women of Delhi but also those across the nation and the globe.”
Gupta also advocated for an increase in healthcare facilities through public and private partnerships, which will enhance healthcare in the country and ensure that “no one is deprived of essential health services.”
Recently, it has been observed that more women than men have been diagnosed with cancer, particularly with cancers prevalent among women, accounting for the highest incidence.
A recent report from ICMR's National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP) indicated that breast and cervical cancers are the most prevalent types among Indian women.
According to data from GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates, approximately 54 percent of cancer incidences among women in India pertain to cancers predominantly affecting women, including breast and cervical cancers.
“Apollo Athenaa symbolizes a new frontier in women’s healthcare, where advanced science meets compassion, and every woman is guaranteed dignity and timely care. It embodies our unwavering belief that India can lead globally not just in medical innovation, but in redefining healthcare as a beacon of hope and humanity,” stated Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group.
Bansuri Swaraj, Member of Parliament, New Delhi, highlighted the government’s “strong policies and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing prevention, early detection, treatment, and patient care nationwide.”
