How Can Connecting 10 Crore Women with Financial Inclusion Help Achieve 6 Crore Lakhpati Didis?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) To realize the ambitious target of creating 6 crore Lakhpati Didis, it is crucial to connect a minimum of 10 crore women with the various financial inclusion programs led by the Ministry of Rural Development, stated Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a meeting on Wednesday.
He urged officials to collaborate closely with state governments and develop a detailed, time-bound action plan to ensure the target is met successfully.
During the session, the minister requested a comprehensive update from senior officials regarding the current progress of the initiative.
Chouhan instructed officials to devise a special strategy and act decisively to achieve the updated goal of producing 6 crore Lakhpati Didis.
He underscored that financial inclusion is fundamental to empowering women and fostering sustainable livelihoods in rural India.
Connecting more women to the formal financial system through bank linkages, credit access, insurance coverage, and financial education is vital for transforming Self-Help Group (SHG) members into economically autonomous and self-sufficient individuals, he emphasized.
Stressing the need for ongoing collaboration with states, Chouhan highlighted that consistent dialogue and coordination with state governments would enhance the implementation of DAY–NRLM.
This collaborative approach would enable a greater number of Self-Help Groups and Lakhpati Didis to benefit from various livelihood and empowerment programs.
During the discussion, it was noted that the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission comprises four major components.
These include institutional development and capacity building, social inclusion and enhancement, financial inclusion, and livelihood promotion. Collectively, these components aim to create strong community institutions, improve skills, encourage inclusive growth, and bolster income-generating opportunities for rural households.
Additionally, approximately 5 crore individuals have been engaged with financial literacy initiatives, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to manage finances, savings, credit, and investments more efficiently.
The mission has significantly contributed to expanding social security coverage, with nearly 7 crore individuals benefiting from various social security schemes.
