New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) Strengthening government healthcare infrastructure is crucial for the well-being of residents in the national capital, stated Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday. She announced the establishment of seven super specialty hospitals along with an increase in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed capacity.
These hospitals were initially set up during the Covid-19 pandemic but remained inactive, Gupta noted during the inauguration of the Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals in Model Town, New Delhi.
Gupta highlighted the necessity of enhancing government healthcare capabilities.
“We must ensure that not a single penny of public funds is squandered. Thus, we are keen to reactivate the seven hospitals that were left idle during the pandemic. Work on these facilities has now resumed,” Gupta remarked.
She pointed out that during the pandemic, Delhi experienced severe healthcare challenges, particularly the shortage of proper ICU beds. These new super-speciality hospitals will significantly increase ICU bed availability and provide superior healthcare to residents.
“Originally designed as ICU-centric facilities, these hospitals are now being transformed into super-specialty centers, each tailored to address specific medical requirements necessitating intensive care.
“For instance, one facility will serve as a cancer treatment center, another as a high-risk maternity unit, while others will concentrate on kidney transplants, dialysis, and various critical care services. This initiative aims to fill the gap in ICU resources and deliver specialized care to the people of Delhi,” the Chief Minister elaborated.
Additionally, she urged private hospitals to enroll in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, designed to meet the healthcare demands of the population.
“We have designated 15 Aarogya mandirs in each assembly to categorize the primary and secondary healthcare needs of the citizens,” the CM stated.
“Our goal must be to enhance the healthcare provisions for citizens, ensuring that no one visiting Delhi for treatment feels discouraged. Delhi should evolve into a medical hub, assisting individuals from across the nation and the world,” she added.
The newly inaugurated Yatharth Hospital in Model Town, also part of the Ayushman scheme, represents a significant increase in the group’s bed capacity, aimed at fortifying healthcare infrastructure in Delhi.
Strategically situated on approximately two acres, the facility boasts 300 beds, including 70 critical care beds, to serve patients requiring specialized and intensive treatment.
