MP tops nation in Ayushman Bharat biometric pre-authorisations, wins NHA award
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh has secured the top national ranking under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) for recording the highest number of pre-authorisations with biometric authentication, earning a coveted award from the National Health Authority (NHA). The recognition was announced on Monday, 20 July, at a national review conclave held at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Award and What It Recognises
The state received the honour in the 'Best Performing Large State – Highest Pre-authorizations with Biometric Authentication' category at the Chintan Shivir, an NHA-organised national review meeting. The award was presented by Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to Arvind Shah, Chief Executive Officer of Ayushman Bharat Niramayam Madhya Pradesh.
Senior officials from the NHA and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) — including NHA CEO Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal and Joint Secretary Kiran Gopal Vaska — were present at the ceremony.
What Deputy CM Shukla Said
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla described the recognition as a reflection of the state's commitment to technology-driven governance. 'This achievement is a testament to the government's commitment to transparency in health services, technology-driven good governance, and public-welfare initiatives,' Shukla said.
He congratulated the full team of Ayushman Bharat Niramayam Madhya Pradesh, district officials, empanelled hospitals, and ground-level personnel for ensuring smooth rollout of the biometric process across the state.
How Biometric Authentication Is Changing Healthcare Delivery
The biometric pre-authorisation process links patient verification directly with Aadhaar, ensuring that scheme benefits reach intended beneficiaries without delay. According to officials, the system has helped curb fraud, accelerate approvals for eligible patients, and bring greater accountability to the utilisation of public funds.
Madhya Pradesh has been expanding technology adoption across health delivery more broadly — including digital health records, online claims processing, and real-time monitoring of hospital services. Shukla noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the state is working to make healthcare more accessible to citizens.
National Context and Significance
The recognition comes as the Centre is actively reviewing state-level performance across multiple parameters of Ayushman Bharat implementation. Madhya Pradesh's ranking among the country's large states underscores its lead in deploying technology to strengthen public health infrastructure.
Notably, biometric-linked pre-authorisation is increasingly seen as a model for reducing leakages in government health schemes — a challenge that has historically affected similar programmes. With this award, Madhya Pradesh positions itself as a benchmark for other large states looking to scale up fraud-resistant health delivery.
