Patna, June 4 (NationPress) Following the detection of six new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in Patna has surged to 30 since May 23, as per the latest update from the Bihar Health Department.
The latest cases comprise a 19-year-old male, a 21-year-old female, and three elderly individuals aged 55, 66, and 73.
Out of the total cases, 24 patients are currently active, while six have recovered and been discharged. Among these, 16 cases were confirmed by government laboratories (AIIMS, NMCH, IGIMS), and the remaining 14 were identified through private labs, raising alarms regarding the silent spread of the virus.
Notably, some healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and medical students from leading hospitals such as Patna AIIMS, NMCH, and IGIMS, have also tested positive, raising concerns about potential impacts on hospital readiness if necessary precautions are not upheld.
The fact that three elderly patients over the age of 55 years are part of the new cases has led health officials to emphasize the susceptibility of senior citizens and those with underlying health issues like heart disease and diabetes.
“Most patients are exhibiting mild symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and fatigue. However, the elderly and those with chronic conditions should exercise additional caution,” stated Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh, Civil Surgeon of Patna.
Hospitals have been instructed to guarantee the availability of oxygen cylinders, testing kits, and sufficient vaccine supplies.
Mock drills for oxygen supply have already been executed across several districts, including Patna.
IGIMS has dedicated a 12-bed Covid ward and three ICU beds for Covid care. NMCH has also set aside beds for treating Covid-19 patients. However, there has been no confirmation yet regarding the presence of new sub-variants like Omicron LF.7 or NB.1.8.1 in Bihar.
As of June 3, the active Covid-19 cases in India have escalated to 4,265, with Kerala (1,435) and Maharashtra (424) being the worst-hit states.
Deaths reported in these regions have primarily been associated with pre-existing health conditions, highlighting the critical need for preventive measures.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from panic but to remain alert. Citizens are encouraged to wear masks in crowded places, seek immediate testing if symptoms arise, maintain hygiene, and limit unnecessary exposure.
“While there’s no reason to fear, maintaining caution is essential. All active cases are under close observation,” Dr. Singh added.
