New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) During his monthly radio segment, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the poignant story of a ten-month-old girl from Kerala. The infant, Aalin Sherin Abraham, tragically lost her life in a road accident in the Pathanamthitta district, becoming the youngest organ donor in the state.
The Prime Minister expressed that the baby, who had a bright future ahead, left the world too soon, leaving behind unfulfilled dreams and moments of joy.
“The anguish that her parents must be experiencing is beyond words. Yet, amidst profound sorrow, Aalin’s father, Arun Abraham, and mother, Sherin, made a decision that has garnered respect from every Indian,” he remarked.
PM Modi shared that Aalin’s parents chose to donate her organs. “This singular choice reflects the magnitude of their thinking and the depth of their character.”
He noted that awareness regarding organ donation is on the rise, alongside advancements in medical research. “There are numerous individuals like Aalin who have granted others a second chance at life through organ donation,” the PM stated.
Aalin Sherin Abraham, from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta, was declared brain dead on February 12 after a devastating accident.
In the midst of unimaginable grief, her parents opted to donate their child’s organs, thus providing four other children with a renewed opportunity for life.
The infant's kidneys, liver, and heart valves were successfully donated. Her kidneys were transplanted into a 10-year-old patient receiving treatment at the S.A.T. Hospital, affiliated with Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
In an impressive medical operation, the organs were efficiently transferred from Kochi to three hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram within just three hours and 27 minutes, showcasing the robustness of Kerala’s transplant network.
State Health Minister Veena George expressed her heartfelt admiration for the family’s remarkable act. In offering her condolences, she remarked that the parents' choice to consider the lives of others during their moment of profound sorrow displays extraordinary courage and humanity. She also affirmed that the state government stands with the grieving family.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan attended the baby’s funeral and announced that a proposed state organ transplant unit would bear her name. The infant was also given a state funeral, marking her as the youngest in the state to receive such an honor.
