Indore, Jan 17 (NationPress) Congress leader and the Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday, visited the families and patients impacted by the recent incident of vomiting and diarrhoea linked to contaminated water in Indore's Bhagirathpura.

Upon his arrival in Indore, Rahul Gandhi first stopped by the Bombay Hospital to speak with patients who had been admitted there for several days.

After that, he proceeded to Bhagirathpura to meet the families affected by this tragic event.

Accompanying him were Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, who participated in the discussions with the distressed families.

The families of those who lost their lives were given a cheque of Rs 1 lakh as compensation.

A widely circulated video captured Umang Singhar presenting these cheques to the families of victims who succumbed to illnesses caused by the contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura.

Some recipients of the Rs 1 lakh cheques spoke to IANS, revealing that during the meeting, Rahul Gandhi promised to advocate for further financial support for the families affected by this calamity.

One individual shared, "Rahul Gandhi assured us that he would champion our cause and address the challenges we face. Financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh has also been provided."

Another attendee remarked that the Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition expressed his sorrow and guaranteed that the families impacted by the contaminated water would receive all necessary assistance.

"Rahul Gandhi pledged to take our demands to the state government," said a young man who held a Rs 1 lakh cheque, as he spoke to IANS.

Later, Umang Singhar stated that he had also distributed Rs 50,000 to all 24 families affected in Bhagirathpura.

"As many as 24 individuals have died due to contaminated water in Indore's Bhagirathpura area. Madhya Pradesh LoP Umang Singhar distributed Rs 50,000 to each of the 24 grieving families," noted a statement from LoP Singhar's office.
