Mysuru, May 23 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday urged the Central government to implement precautionary measures in light of the increasing Covid-19 cases across the nation.

During a media briefing, Siddaramaiah highlighted the surge in Covid-19 infections in regions like Singapore and Hong Kong, pointing out that the Central government has yet to initiate testing protocols for international travelers.

"The potential for a rise in Covid-19 cases here is significant. The Central government must act quickly and enforce precautionary steps given the upward trend in cases," he stated.

Addressing the debate around renaming Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, CM Siddaramaiah asserted that the state has the power to effect such changes.

In response to Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s claims that this renaming would compromise the district’s historical integrity, Siddaramaiah retorted, stating that the decision was made after consulting the local populace.

"Did Union Minister Kumaraswamy take the district’s history into account when he established Ramanagara district?" he challenged.

When asked about the Supreme Court’s remarks regarding the Enforcement Directorate exceeding its jurisdiction, the Chief Minister remarked: "We have no objections to the ED or IT Departments probing black money. However, such investigations should not be politically motivated. The recent ED raid on Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s educational establishment seems to have political undertones."

"We will understand which case the Supreme Court’s remarks apply to once we review the ruling," he added.

In response to queries about the uptick in rape incidents in the state, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured that the government is taking stringent actions against crime. “In reality, compared to the BJP’s administration, the number of criminal cases has decreased during our governance over the past year. The government is indeed making efforts to considerably diminish crimes,” he stated.

Commenting on the charge sheet submitted against Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and his brother, former MP D.K. Suresh regarding a donation to the Young India organization, Siddaramaiah affirmed: "There is nothing inappropriate about contributing to any organization."

Point of View

It reflects a broader national concern over public health. The demand for precautionary measures is not just a regional plea but resonates with the collective responsibility of the Central government. Ensuring the safety of citizens should be the foremost priority, especially in light of international trends.
