Bengaluru, May 25 (NationPress) In light of the growing concern over the potential spread of Covid-19 in Karnataka, the state government has instructed local authorities to ensure an adequate supply of essential testing kits for the upcoming month.
Despite this, state officials emphasized on Saturday that there is no need for public alarm.
According to State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, "I have instructed officials to secure an adequate supply of testing kits. We have made arrangements to have 5,000 RT-PCR and 5,000 VDRL testing kits available for the upcoming month."
He further stated that mandatory Covid tests will be required for anyone admitted to hospitals with respiratory conditions or heart-related issues.
Recently, there has been a small uptick in Covid-positive cases, particularly in Bengaluru.
The minister reassured the public, stating that precautionary measures are being taken and there is no reason for anyone to panic.
"It is recommended that pregnant women and new mothers wear face masks in public spaces. Among the 35 Covid-positive cases identified in the state, none have presented severe symptoms, with only mild cases reported. Thus, residents can continue their daily routines without worry," he clarified.
Minister Rao noted that while there has been a slight increase in Covid-positive cases, with a total of 35 reported, 32 of those are from Bengaluru itself.
"There is no cause for public concern regarding the resurgence of Covid-19," he stated.
The state health department has issued the necessary guidelines to manage this situation.
A meeting of the state’s Covid-19 technical committee was held on Friday to discuss the recent uptick in cases.
"We have implemented precautionary measures and are in communication with the Central government," the minister added.
He also mentioned that testing will be mandatory in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and for patients admitted with respiratory or heart conditions.
Testing samples for Covid-19 will be required in these instances, he noted.
Minister Rao advised that pregnant and postpartum women should wear masks in crowded environments.
"There is no need for alarm. Covid-19 is re-emerging, but if individuals adhere to the health department's guidelines and take precautions, everything will be fine," he said.
"Currently, wearing masks is not obligatory for everyone, but pregnant and postpartum women are advised to do so. Maintaining hygiene and using hand sanitizers is highly recommended. There are no travel restrictions, and the public can continue with their daily activities as normal. The media should avoid inciting panic and focus on raising awareness instead," Minister Rao concluded.
He reiterated that sufficient testing kits are being procured for the upcoming month.
Tests will only be conducted when deemed necessary, he stated.
Despite Bengaluru reporting 32 Covid-positive cases and a slight rise in numbers over the last week, the situation is being closely monitored, according to the minister.
"There is no reason for alarm at this time," he assured.
