Singapore, Jan 5 (NationPress) Approximately 35 residents were evacuated early Sunday morning after a fire ignited in an unoccupied three-story semi-detached house located in eastern Singapore, officials reported.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) revealed that they received an alert about the fire at around 12:45 a.m.. Firefighting teams from the Kallang and Paya Lebar Fire Stations responded promptly, arriving to find the flames consuming the first floor and rapidly advancing to the upper levels.
The blaze was completely extinguished by approximately 3:00 a.m., with the upper floors of the structure suffering from significant smoke and fire damage. The neighboring unit was also affected.
No injuries were reported, and about 35 residents from adjacent properties were evacuated as a safety measure, as noted by the Xinhua news agency.
The investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing.
On December 9, 2024, fifty individuals were also evacuated due to a fire incident in a residential block in eastern Singapore, as reported by authorities.
The SCDF stated that they were alerted to the fire at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block on Tampines Street. Upon arrival, thick black smoke was observed coming from a unit on the 13th floor.
Images released by the SCDF illustrated charred walls inside a room and damage in the corridor. As a precaution, around 50 residents from nearby units were evacuated.
Two inhabitants of the affected unit evacuated prior to the SCDF's arrival. They were evaluated by an SCDF paramedic for potential smoke inhalation but opted not to go to the hospital.
The fire, which involved the contents of a bedroom, was brought under control. Investigations into the cause are currently in progress.
