Former Rajasthan MLA Baljeet Yadav, lodged in Jaipur Central Jail, has reportedly launched an indefinite hunger strike, alleging that an FIR registered against him on 9 September 2026 over the alleged recovery of a mobile phone is fabricated and politically motivated. Yadav, a former legislator from the Behror constituency, has denied any connection with the device and demanded an impartial probe backed by CCTV evidence.

The Mobile Recovery Allegations

According to Yadav's account, the mobile phone in question was found abandoned in a public toilet near the alley behind Ward No. 5 of Jaipur Central Jail — not on his person or inside his barrack. The former MLA has maintained that neither he was personally searched nor was his barrack inspected at the time the phone was allegedly recovered. Despite this, FIR No. 0191/2026 was registered against him on 9 September.

Yadav has further claimed that at the time of the alleged recovery, he was undergoing a blood pressure and blood sugar check with prison doctor Dr Karan at the jail hospital. These allegations have not been independently established and remain subject to investigation.

Supporters Demand CCTV Review

Sandeep Yadav, the outgoing Sarpanch representative of Tasing village in Behror and a spokesperson for Baljeet Yadav's team, reportedly met the former MLA inside the jail. Following the meeting, Sandeep Yadav submitted a letter to the Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) in Jaipur on Friday, making three key demands.

First, the letter seeks that CCTV recordings from across the Jaipur Central Jail complex — including the route to the hospital and the area surrounding the toilet — be secured and provided to the investigating officer. Second, it asks for verification of Baljeet Yadav's whereabouts using footage to establish whether he was indeed with Dr Karan at the hospital when the alleged recovery took place. Third, it demands that statements be recorded from prisoners present near the hospital and Kanha Garden around the relevant time.

Political Undertones and Protest History

The controversy has surfaced amid heightened political activity in Rajasthan ahead of the 2026 civic body election results. Yadav's supporters in Behror and Alwar have expressed anger over the case, maintaining that their leader has been targeted for raising issues concerning the public and unemployed youth. They allege the FIR is the product of political vendetta.

Notably, this is not the first time Baljeet Yadav has resorted to unconventional forms of protest. He has previously staged demonstrations by running while dressed in black and undertaking fasts.
