In December last year, Afghan police detained eight individuals on charges related to the production and smuggling of narcotics in the northern province of Jawzjan, as reported by local media outlet Tolo News.

As per the report, provincial police executed targeted operations that resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of a substantial amount of illegal drugs, including hashish and heroin. The drugs were reportedly found at locations connected to the detained individuals.

The arrests form part of continuous efforts by Afghan authorities to combat the illegal production, trafficking, and distribution of narcotics nationwide.

In a similar operation, provincial police reported that Afghan counter-narcotics police dismantled a drug processing laboratory and apprehended one suspect in connection with the case in the eastern province of Laghman.

Acting on a tip-off, police executed an operation in Mehtarlam district on December 20, 2025, where they uncovered a drug processing facility. A vast quantity of materials and equipment used for heroin production was seized and destroyed at the site, as stated in the report.

On November 14, provincial police spokesman Nizamudin Omir mentioned that Afghan police had arrested a suspected drug smuggler and confiscated illegal narcotics during an operation in the northern Takhar province.

According to the official, the suspect was detained while attempting to transport crystal methamphetamine and other chemicals used in heroin production to Taluqan, the provincial capital, where he allegedly intended to sell the materials.

The suspect is now in custody for further investigation, the spokesman added.
