Mullah Mohammad Nabi Kamran, the provincial director of counter-narcotics police, stated that the suspects were arrested in various locations within Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of the province. During the operation, security forces confiscated a variety of narcotic substances, such as hashish and other heroin-related products, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
The detained individuals are currently under investigation, and further legal measures are being taken.
On January 13, the Ministry of Interior Affairs reported that Afghan security forces had discovered and destroyed three secret heroin processing laboratories along with a significant amount of illegal drugs in the western province of Farah and the southern province of Helmand.
Counter-narcotics units executed targeted operations on the outskirts of these provinces, dismantling the facilities and seizing large quantities of materials utilized in heroin production, as stated by the ministry.
As part of ongoing initiatives to tackle drug addiction, Afghan police have recently apprehended 172 drug users in Kabul, transferring them to a rehabilitation center for medical assistance and support.
In addition, Afghan forces conducted 10,599 operations throughout 2025, seizing 2,356 tons of illegal drugs and dismantling 517 clandestine drug processing labs, according to official statistics.
On December 21, the provincial police headquarters reported that Afghan counter-narcotics police had eradicated a drug processing facility and arrested one suspect related to the case in the eastern province of Laghman.
Following a tip-off, police executed an operation in the Mehtarlam district on December 20, where they discovered a drug processing site. A large quantity of materials and equipment used for heroin production was seized and destroyed at the location, the statement indicated.
In November, provincial police spokesman Nizamudin Omir revealed that police had arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized illicit narcotics during an operation in the northern Takhar province.
The official stated that the suspect was caught while trying to transport crystal methamphetamine and other chemicals used in heroin production to Taluqan, the provincial capital, where he allegedly intended to sell the materials.
The suspect has been placed in custody for further investigation, the spokesman added.
