Kabul, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Afghan Air Force executed airstrikes targeting military installations in Islamabad, Nowshera, Jamrud, and Abbottabad, as announced by Taliban Deputy Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat on Friday.
Fitrat remarked that these operations were a direct retaliation to the airstrikes conducted by the Pakistani military in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia the previous night.
"The Air Force of the Ministry of National Defence successfully targeted a military camp near Faizabad city in Islamabad, an army cantonment in Nowshera, a military colony in Jamrud, and Abbottabad today around 11:00 AM," Fitrat stated on X.
He added, "These airstrikes were aimed at significant military positions and facilities of the Pakistani army, executed in retaliation for the strikes on Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia last night."
Earlier today, the Afghan Ministry of National Defence reported that Afghan forces initiated counterstrikes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, resulting in at least 55 Pakistani soldiers being killed and the capture of two bases along with 19 posts. This surge in military activity occurs amid escalating tensions in the border region.
The Afghan ministry specified that these operations occurred on Thursday night in response to Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghan soil, which resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children. The counter-offensive by Afghan forces specifically targeted Pakistani military posts to the east and southeast across the Durand Line.
During these engagements, the Afghan forces reportedly destroyed two Pakistani military bases and 19 posts, compelling soldiers to abandon four additional posts. The four-hour confrontation resulted in the death of 55 Pakistani soldiers, with several others captured and others fleeing.
“During these operations, Afghan forces seized numerous light and heavy weaponry, ammunition, and military supplies. Furthermore, an enemy tank was destroyed, and a significant military transport vehicle was captured,” stated the Afghan ministry.
Additionally, the Afghan ministry reported that the operation resulted in the deaths of eight Afghan soldiers and injuries to 11 others.
Kabul also noted that 13 Afghan civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries due to a missile strike by Pakistani forces on a refugee camp in the Afghan province of Nangarhar.
On Thursday, Pakistan initiated 'Operation Ghazab lil-Haq' (Righteous Fury) in response to what it termed as "unprovoked firing" by Afghan forces across multiple border sectors, as reported by Pakistan's leading daily 'Dawn'. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) executed airstrikes targeting military installations in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia.
