Dhaka, June 25 (NationPress) The Awami League has charged the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the radical Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam with vandalizing and looting the residence of their Netrokona Vice President Prashanta Kumar Roy during a violent assault following a recent rally in the region.
"On the morning of June 20, 2025, Prashanta Kumar Roy addressed a protest rally at the Netrokona District Awami League office. After a peaceful procession through the town led by him, armed militants from BNP and Hefazat erupted in violence, launching a focused attack," stated the Awami League.
"They savagely assaulted and ransacked both his urban residence and rural home, leaving a trail of destruction. This incident serves as yet another glaring reminder that violence and chaos are the central tenets of the BNP-Hefazat alliance. Their authentic nature has once again been revealed -- this time, in Netrokona," they added.
In addition, the Awami League condemned the severe "persecution, violence, and ongoing mob terror and indiscriminate mass arrests" instigated by the "illegitimate fascist" regime of Muhammad Yunus against leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League and other political factions.
In a declaration made by the Awami League Joint General Secretary A.F.M. Bahauddin Nasim on Tuesday, it was argued that the "illegal occupier Yunus regime is not only engaging in brutal, indiscriminate oppression using state power in a terrorist fashion but is also actively undermining social harmony by inciting hatred and unwarranted resentment."
He asserted that through "mass arrests and unlawful detentions", this "unconstitutional and undemocratic government" has established a "reign of terror" under the guise of state authority.
"This occupying force, ruling against the will of the populace, is increasingly seen as an adversary of the public. Yet their illegal, unjust, and unlawful actions exhibit no signs of abating. The fascist Yunus regime’s latest tactic -- orchestrated mob violence -- is a blatant attempt to reduce Bangladesh to a failed state," stated the Awami League.
"We vehemently condemn and oppose this mob violence, which is being executed with the direct support of this illegitimate regime, along with state-sponsored oppression and indiscriminate mass arrests targeted at dismantling the nation’s democratic structure," the statement continued.
The party revealed that as part of the "destructive scheme", the regime is indiscriminately detaining Awami League leaders and activists. It mentioned that recently, numerous leaders and activists have been "unjustly" arrested, including Member of Parliament Mohammad Faisal Biplob, former MP Sabina Akhter Tuhin, former Chhatra League Vice Presidents Monowarul Islam Masud and Kamal Khan, and Shahjahanpur Upazila Jubo League Office Secretary and Chupinagar Union Parishad Chairman Arif Azad Palash.
The Awami League also pointed out that the police unleashed "barbaric violence" at the residence of Abu Sayeed, Vice President of the Union Awami League and uncle of the Shahjahanpur Upazila Chairman, after failing to locate him.
"Moreover, the former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Bir Muktijoddha Nurul Huda -- a decorated freedom fighter who once held a constitutional office -- was shamefully disrespected and arrested through mob violence. This gross injustice has profoundly wounded the sentiments of the people of Bangladesh, yet the fascist Yunus regime, which has illegally clung to power like a boulder crushing the nation, continues to perpetrate such monstrous acts," stated the Awami League.
The party demanded an immediate cessation of mob violence and indiscriminate mass arrests, calling for the unconditional release of all those wrongfully detained, including leaders and activists of the Awami League.
