Dhaka, Dec 1 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has sharply criticized the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus for allegedly compromising the essence of the country’s hard-won freedom, as the nation marks December as a month of victory celebrating its success in the 1971 Liberation War against Pakistan.

In a scathing attack on the Yunus administration, the party stated, "The true aim of today’s illegitimate, occupying 'killer-fascist Yunus group' is to erode the pride of Bangladesh's independence. By aligning with foreign interests, they seek to make the entire populace accept this subservience without contest."

Reflecting on the independence achieved on December 16, 1971, the Awami League emphasized, "In this significant month, under the unequivocal guidance of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bengali people liberated themselves from a millennium of oppression during the grand Liberation War and finally attained the long-desired independence."

The Awami League underscored that ever since this victory, both domestic and international anti-liberation factions have schemed to undermine this monumental success.

"They were disheartened by such a colossal victory born from the united efforts of the Bengali people. Consequently, they have attacked the foundational values of the Liberation War and independence in an attempt to render freedom insignificant, making unending attempts to pull Bangladesh back toward a Pakistani ideology,” the party remarked.

The Awami League claimed that whenever opportunities arise, anti-liberation forces heighten their conspiracies.

One of these schemes was observed in July-August 2024, when these forces, through collusion, forcibly ousted the constitutionally elected Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina.

In discussing the current situation under the Yunus-led interim government, the Awami League contended that the citizens of Bangladesh are not only stripped of their rights but also deprived of all constitutional safeguards.

"Industries and factories are closing down one after another. Hundreds of thousands of workers are losing their jobs. Farmers are unable to access fertilizers. Social aid for the impoverished and vulnerable has been revoked. There is no protection for people's lives or properties. The national capacity and economy have crumbled. State authority is being wielded to grant unlawful advantages to illegitimate occupiers. These usurpers cater to foreign interests and function as their tools. Their apparent objective seems to be surrendering Bangladesh to foreign powers," the party asserted.

As December begins, a month of victory, the Awami League has urged all patriotic citizens, pro-Liberation forces, and every party leader and worker to rally around the ideals of the martyrs, the philosophy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the spirit of the Liberation War.
